Members of Count Every Hero sent a letter to the Senate Armed Services Committee highlighting threats posed by the terminations of generals and admirals to civil-military relations and national security readiness.
Washington, D.C. – Members of Count Every Hero, a nonpartisan initiative of former military service secretaries and retired flag officers, expressed their deep concern over recent terminations of senior military officers without due cause by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The unjust terminations “threaten the strength and stability of our Armed Forces.”
By terminating senior officers without cause, the current leadership of the Pentagon risks undermining the healthy civilian-military relationship that has kept civilians in charge of our troops for some 236 years, according to the letter. If policy change is necessary at the Defense Department, the Count Every Hero principals wrote, policies should be changed instead of people.
