Retired defense and military leaders praised the prompt tabulation of votes and certification of the 2024 general election.
The members of Count Every Hero and the National Guard Working Group, both composed of former civilian defense officials and retired military leaders, issued a joint statement praising the work of government institutions in ensuring a peaceful transfer of power following the 2024 presidential election.
The 2024 election was well-administered, an outcome that inspires confidence in the electoral process and minimizes national security vulnerabilities.
They also highlighted that presidential transitions are inherently a period of increased vulnerability for our national security. The peaceful transfer of power is a core tenet of American democracy and a way to minimize those vulnerabilities, and Vice President Kamala Harris’s prompt concession and the outgoing administration’s efforts to secure a smooth transition deserve thanks.
